India blows off Israel?

I know I have some readers in India. Perhaps you could comment on this. Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil blew Israel off on Saturday. She went to Damascus and announced that India sides with the Arabs and that the Golan should belong to Syria. Really?
Indian President Pratibha Patil said that India fully supported the return of the Golan Heights to Syria during a joint press conference with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus, Israel Radio reported Saturday.

Patil is visiting Syria as part of her visit to the region, aimed to encourage mutual investment opportunities between the two countries.

The Indian president said that India had consistently supported Arab goals in the region, and sought a peace agreement in accordance with UN resolutions.
I wonder how much the Syrian government is planning on investing in India. Maybe Patil ought to rethink her position. Heh.

The Indians told the Syrians what they wanted to hear. They're not going to get back the Golan in our lifetime.

Maybe Sonny Assad can sell them some dates from Palmyra in exchange for their rhetorical support.

Heh

There's no need to fret about this - the reality is there's no pressure on Israel to let go of the Golan, and that India is increasing its cooperation with Israel. As NormanF said, it's just telling the Syrians what they wanted to hear.

Btw, while the Indian President in theory has very broad powers, in practice the state is run by the PM and the position is only slightly more significant than our own president.

indian president in practical has no power it is the pm who takes the decision .According to me syria used the heights for attacking israel,so first syria must be punished in court for act of aggression. Also the main problem is that syria does not recognize israel?then to whome syria should talk for golan as they don't recognize israel. So what our president said indirectly first recognize israel right to exist then talk about golan.i know israeli are very upset regarding this statement of president but think for a minute diplomatically india needs oil & gas for which it needs arabs ,which is the reason of giving syrians the lip service.Israel is far more one of the most important partner second only to russian.
